Catastrophe !!

Catastrophe !! By all means !

I have lost 3 games, 2 to lower rated players. All from winning positions ! Drew with another lower rated player. Lost 32 points !!

Never in my life I lost 3 games in a tournament, never in my life I had such a poor outing ! I can't say I played badly as in the opening and middle games, I outplayed my opponents. But in the ending, the technique (calculating long variations consistently ) and lack of stamina let me fall apart.

Don't know what to say.....

The best thing is to just forget about it and come back strong in your next tournament. You are a good player. Everybody has a bad tournament once in a while. That is how the game of chess operates.

It's hard to recover from a first round loss to a lower rated player

There is no point in getting winning positions if you can't win them.

Maybe you should look at phisical conditioning and learn not to relax till you have marked the win on the results sheet.

Chris/Bruz/Bookmark Waster,

Maybe you should use your real name.

This time I agree with what BRUZ is saying. Don't you?

I don't agree with Bruz's first point, which seems harsh, as stated ("there is no point in getting winning positions if you can't win them"). So, who among us hasn't blown winning positions, since we're not Fritz. Clearly, the point (to me) is to play chess, and learn from these experiences.

On Bruz' second point, I do agree. Physical conditioning, mental attitudes, etc, are things we all need to keep an eye on. And, let's not forget sufficient sleep (a hard thing to get during an exciting tournament, especially if one worked full-time all week and then screeched right into a full weekend tournament).

I say to Souvik, you're a good player, and while I would never wish the pain of this weekend on you, I am betting you learned some great valuable lessons. Look at it this way: after a loss, I often find myself on a 4-game winning streak right afterwards and then I thank the guy who beat me for the reality check (thanks Dave Cardenas!). Your reality check was somewhat painful, but I've watched you approach 2000, and in spite of losing 30 points, you're actually now closer to your goal of improvement. I agree with Robin... forget it, and move on. Just don't forget to analyze your games !

Thanks everybody (Allen, Robin....) for your support. I almost thought of quitting chess assuming I would never be able to make it 2000 if I keep spoiling positions like this in every tournament. You gave me courage. I'll post my games.

Finally thanks to Fricano, Cardenas and parker ---- you guys gave me a lot of support, even though I continuted to none to the team !
