Allen and Fricano are now leading the tournament with 2.0 points and will play each other next round. Both of them won yesterday with white. Fricano played Grand Prix attack and was the first to win the game (must be quick victory!) and Allen's was the longest (Pirc defense game). I drew a drawn position (!) where I got a sudden chance to win thanks to Robin's blunder but I was equally generous to return the offer. Will cover my game over the weekend. And yes, it was an uncommon opening ! Andrew is continuing his strong showing by drawing Cardenas. It was a wild Grunfeld defense game (very uncommon in USCF circuit !) and was a draw after a lot of ups & downs. Andrew will gain good rating points from his two draws against two class A players and we wish he himself makes it to Class A category soon.

Following was the position on the Becker - Parker game when my game was finished.
Allen won the position in style with following moves. Actually Parker resigned after Bg8 check.

I do not think our game was an uncommon opening. I believe our game was a French Tarrasch, specifically a Guimard Main Line Variation.

good work on the blog, and thanks for your frequent updates of club and tournament activity! Actually, in my game vs. Parker, I had a pawn on h4.
By the way, Parker had the advantage in a messy position between moves 20-25, so I was fortunate that things went my way. It's not always bad to be down the exchange! - Allen

Yes, its Guimard variation. I saw one game with that and felt it's not a common move. The idea was simple, allow white to play e5 and then play f6 to open f-file and play for e5 break freeing light square bishop. It seems everything has a theory now-a-days !!

I'll correct the position from home tonight to add the pawn at h4 (my memory is poor !). Actually I feel you play extremely well with exchange down (or sac-ed) positions. You once beat me on an english game with exchange down for no apparent compensation !

I will change the line so that it doesn't sound like one of them is going to win it. Somehow I thought it was a 3 round event. Thanks for pointing it out.
I looked over our game quickly and really could not see any real blunders by either side. I will analyze it deeper later.
Kc3 was wrong move when Ke4 give a big advantage for black. Will analysze it tomorrow.
Forgot to mention, your Rc1 was a great concept ! Good plan...I missed altogether.
